Therese Laeger


Therese is a graduate of the Alabama School of Fine Arts and Birmingham-Southern College with a B.A. in Dance Arts Management.  Therese began her professional career as a dancer with Birmingham Ballet, and then Cleveland Ballet.  Returning to Birmingham, she joined the The Alabama Ballet/Ballet South performing soloist and principal roles under the direction of Dame Sonia Arova and Thor Sutowski.    Following her performance career, she held leadership positions with Alabama Ballet, AROVA Contemporary Ballet, and as Chair of the Alabama School of Fine Arts Dance Department.  Collaborating with filmmaker Colleen Laeger, she produced the award winning film AROVA.  Therese completed pedagogical studies with The Paris Opera Ballet School (Bessy, Golovine, NYU), The Vaganova Syllabus (White),The Royal Academy of Dance (London), The Revolutionary Principles of Movement (Chapman) and teacher training at The Pilates Center (Boulder, CO).  Most recently, she received an Artist Fellowship from the Alabama State Council on the Arts (2019) to develop seminars focusing on the ART of Teaching Ballet.  Therese travels as an independent teaching artist, coach and répéteur in the U.S. and Canada, staging classical and neo-classical repertoire.
